Tim HulakOntario Mills
Tim first picked up a guitar in 2006 after hearing the live Randy Rhoads Tribute album. After gigging around Southern California, Nevada, and Utah with his rock band (playing with acts such as Korn, LA Guns, Creeping Death, the Iron Maidens, and others), Tim joined the United States Marine Corps in 2008. He returned to school in 2012, attending Chaffey College and obtaining an Associate’s Degree in Fine Art & Music. Following that, he matriculated to San Francisco State University where he graduated with a B.A. in Music with a Jazz Guitar emphasis. He has studied under accomplished guitarists such as Brandon Bernstein, Matt Lake, Adam Hawley, Tim Fischer, and Bruce Forman as well as notable jazz musicians such as Andrew Speight, Michel Zisman, Dee Spencer, and Hafez Modirzadeh. Currently, Tim is working toward his Master’s Degree in Studio/Jazz guitar at the University of Southern California (USC). As a rock, metal, blues, and jazz musician, Tim teaches music theory that is practical and useful to the guitar and piano. He has a strong emphasis on sight reading, chordal and scalar playing, and especially improvisation.
