Niko Kordalis has 7 years experience playing the alto saxophone in a concert band setting and 9 years playing the guitar in a variety of settings and musical styles. He has earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Guitar Performance from the Jazz Studies Program at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. His background in music includes playing Blues, Rock, Funk, R&B, Hip-Hop, and Jazz.
Niko studied with James E. Smith (Chairman of Jazz Studies at Central State University, adjunct faculty at UC) for 5 years. While at the conservatory, Niko played with the Jazz Lab Band under the direction of Dominic Marino for 2.5 years and played in the combos of Cincinnati jazz musicians including Marc Fields, Scott Belck, and John Von Ohlen.
Niko has been educated in music theory, music history, composition, basic keyboard skills, basic recording techniques, and general performance practices. Although guitar is his primary instrument, Niko also teaches electric bass and saxophone. This background allows Niko to teach beginners of any age or further the education and skills of advanced players in a variety of musical styles. He is currently an active musician in the Cincinnati music scene.
