Judy Heisel

San Diego

Judy Heisel- earned a BM from George Mason University, VA in performance and music education while putting herself through school teaching private lessons. The summer of her senior year she studied at Tanglewood Institute MA. There she studied clarinet with the Boston Pops principle clarinetist Edward Avedisian. While playing with The President’s Own band members, she was encouraged to join the Navy Music Program. After attending the Armed Forces School of Music she was stationed in San Diego.
Judith currently plays saxophone and clarinet with several bands in town. She lives the phrase “life-long learning” as she continues to study jazz in all its forms. Judith believes music should be fun and instruction tailored to fit each student. She inspires her students carry their love of music far into the future and helps older students rediscover their love of music, no matter what skill level they are at or what style they want to play.
