Jon Schwier graduated from Wabash College with a double major in Music and Philosophy. Immediately following graduation, he began touring as the lead guitarist in the Decatur Park Singers musical group. The following year, he began his long standing career as an orchestra guitarist for Norwegian Cruise Line, while teaching music lessons when not touring. During this busy time, he also played for various musical theater productions in Indianapolis. In 2009, Jon successfully auditioned for a position in the USA Navy Band and Army Band program. During this same year, he began his studies of flamenco music in Spain (and subsequently still returns). In the following year, Jon accepted a position performing at the Bright Angel Lodge on the south rim of the Grand Canyon. In attempt to broaden his cruising perspective, he began performing for Celebrity Cruise Line in 2011 as a sideman guitarist. In 2015, Jon composed, directed, and debuted his own full scale musical in the Indianapolis area. In 2016, Jon wrote and recorded an a cappella opus for the bicentennial of Indiana. This work earned him recognition in the newspaper as being an accomplished composer in the locale of Indianapolis. Jon currently performs at nursing homes and local restaurants.
As an instructor, Jon believes in teaching the fundamentals of music while taking care to achieve the most important goal….to have fun! On the first lesson, he ascertains the goals of each student and individualizes the lessons to meet these goals. Inevitably, aspirations change and often grow with time, but with each alteration, Jon steers the lessons accordingly. Whether utilizing classical literature or a new song from pop radio, he extracts from these the educational fundamentals and teaches them while the student enjoys learning his or her preferred music. Philosophically, Jon believes music can be taught and learned through a variety of methods which serve the needs of each individual student.
